Gloria McLellan Scholarship for the Arts

The Agawam Community Artists and Artisans (ACAA) Scholarship is presented in loving memory of Gloria McLellan, a lifelong resident of Agawam and one of ACAA’s founding members.

Gloria dedicated her life to the pursuit of visual art, exploring and expressing herself across many mediums. Creating art well into her 90s, she embraced the roles of both student and teacher, inspiring others through her curiosity, generosity, and unwavering passion for creativity.

This scholarship reflects Gloria’s enduring belief that artists should always be encouraged, nurtured, and supported by their community.

Purpose

To provide financial assistance to Western Massachusetts high school seniors and current college students pursuing education in the visual arts with the goal of a career in art.

Visual Arts Scholarship

Celebrating Creativity in 2D & 3D Art

Our Visual Arts Scholarship supports and celebrates emerging artists working across a wide range of two-dimensional and three-dimensional disciplines. We are proud to encourage creativity, skill development, and continued education in the visual arts.

🎨 Eligible Art Disciplines

Applicants may work in, but are not limited to, the following media:

  •  Painting & Drawing

  •  Printmaking

  •  Sculpture

  •  Photography

  •  Graphic Design

  •  Pottery & Mixed Media

  •  Jewelry & Metalwork

  •  Glasswork

  •  Fiber Art

 

Eligibility & Qualifications

Who Can Apply

  • Graduating seniors from any Western Massachusetts high school or current college student

  • Previous scholarship recipients are welcome to reapply

Academic Requirement

  • Applicants must be accepted into an established educational institution or arts program

  • Acceptance must be verifiable by the Scholarship Committee

 

📋 Application Requirements

All application materials must be submitted by May 1.

Applicants must include:

  • 📄 A completed application form

  • ✍️ A personal essay

  • 🖼️ Images (digital or print) of three original works of art

  • 🧑‍🏫 One letter of recommendation from an art teacher or creative mentor

 

🗣️ Interview Process

  • Selected applicants may be contacted for an interview as part of the review process.

2025  Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to our scholarship winners!  Charles Santiago, Anthony Nguyen, and Sarah MacDonald, each received $1200 towards their college programs!  They attended the ACAA meeting in June to receive their certificates and share with the group some of their work.  They are all passionate about how art is a part of their lives and are excited about what their future holds as they work towards their dreams! This scholarship showcases your dedication to the arts.  Wishing you all the best as you continue to pursue greatness!
