< Back ANN ABBEY Mediums / Interests: ACRYLIC, OIL, GLASS, WATERCOLOR, PASTELS I started my artist life taking oil painting classes when I was nine years old. I’ve always been creative and knew that I wanted my life’s path to include being an artist. I formally trained in fine arts at HCC in Holyoke. Then followed that with a graphic design degree from UMass Dartmouth. I’ve spent most of my life in a corporate career but I’ve always included the creation of artwork as a fulfilling part of my life. I work in all types of mediums … oils, acrylics, pastels sticks, pastel pencils, color pencils, as well as stain glass. When I see an image that I want to re-create I love to be able to pick the medium that best suits the finished art that I am imagining. Every day, and every piece of art, helps me grow and mature as an artist. < Back JOAN NELSON Mediums / Interests: OIL, PASTEL, EGG TEMPURA, ACRYLIC, WATERCOLOR, PHOTOGRAPHY, SCULPTURE, FIBER ARTS Joan Nelson is an award-winning artist from Western Massachusetts, working from her studio at Indian Orchard Mills as well as her home studio. She works in a variety of media, primarily, Egg Tempera, Acrylic, and Watercolor; but will use whatever medium she feels best suited to the subject. Egg Tempera is her favorite - the bright, clear colors and fast drying time can't be matched by any other medium. Joan is known mostly for her finely detailed paintings of birds, but other subjects range from portraiture to whimsical art. She accepts commissions of most subjects. She also enjoys making One of A Kind Art Dolls, either from cloth, clay, or a mixture of both. Each doll takes on a personality of its own as it evolves from the choice of fabrics, fibers, and paints. Joan's goal for each piece created is to instill feelings of happiness in the viewer, and to find beauty equally in both the special and commonplace. She spends a great amount of time out photographing birds and nature for inspiration and reference. She has received numerous awards in many shows, including several First place and Best of Shows. Her work is in many private collections, and she currently has pieces at J.H. Miller's in West Springfield, and at Handworks Gallery in Acton. She teaches children's art classes sponsored by the Red Thread Network for The Arts at Mitteneague Park in West Springfield and offers classes for teens and adults at her studio in Indian Orchard Mills. < Back Kim Velkey's paintings Kent Memorial Library 50 N Main St, Suffield, CT 06078, USA February 2, 2026 February 28, 2026 to February Exhibition at the Suffield Kent Memorial Library I’m excited to share that a selection of my work is on display throughout the month of February at the Suffield Kent Memorial Library, featured in the Pinney Gallery. A Meet the Artist Reception will be held on February 12, from 6:00–8:00 PM. All are welcome to attend.
